TAMPA - Megan Marie Allen, a teacher at Cleveland Elementary School in Tampa, was honored Monday night as the best teacher in the Hillsborough County School District.
Allen was named the school district's teacher of the year during a ceremony at the Tampa Convention Center.
She was saluted for her energetic methods of inspiring students.
Gifts accompany the honor, including a limousine ride to school, a four-day Bahamas trip, thousands in education scholarships and a yearlong lease of a Lexus.
Allen was one of eight finalists honored by the Hillsborough Education Foundation.
The other finalists are Darrell Frost, Just Elementary; Jane Hutchinson Gucciardo, Martinez Middle; Marschette Hunter-Lane, North Tampa Alternative; Suzanne Huopalainen, Chamberlain High; Charla Kerwin, Springhead Elementary; Debbie Loescher Mattox, Davidsen Middle; and Stacey Schlarbaum, Burnett Middle.
