LAND O' LAKES - Elementary school students accustomed to pizza in the cafeteria every Friday need to adjust their culinary expectations.
The Pasco County School District has made some changes to the elementary cafeteria menus, including shifting pizza from Fridays to other days and serving it less often.
"Now it's just like any other lunch, instead of spotlighted," said Emily Mark, a dietitian and marketing coordinator for the school district's food and nutrition services department.
One reason behind the menu change: For many families, Friday is pizza night at home, so children were getting the same meal for lunch and dinner.
Mark said the pizza shift is just one of several changes the food and nutrition services department has made to the elementary school menus.
Cafeterias have added selections, including baked potatoes, chicken fajita nachos and orange chicken and rice.

Florida Opry Features Wheeler
PLANT CITY - Award-winning vocalist Karen Wheeler is the Saturday headliner at the Florida Opry, a revived Plant City tradition now midway through its season.
The 7 p.m. concert at the 1914 Plant City High School Community Center, 605 N. Collins St., also features country vocalist Tina Dallman, Randy Young with The Southern Exposure Band and The Faithful Men Gospel Quartet.
Wheeler last played here in 2007, months before founder Myrle Henry pulled the plug on the concert series just short of its 10th season. Last fall, Henry sold the production to a Plant City family, the Dallmans, familiar with the Florida Opry as fans and performers.
Wheeler is the daughter of entertainer Onie Wheeler, who had a string of hit records and for years was part of the Grand Ole Opry's Roy Acuff show.
Tickets are $12 at the door, $15 reserved. For reservations or information, call (813) 659-1849.
