After swiftly naming his Cabinet nominations, President Barack Obama has been beset with problems.
First, Bill Richardson dropped out of contention for the commerce secretary position after he revealed that he was under investigation in his home state of New Mexico. A grand jury is investigating a state contract awarded to his political donors.
Then, former Sen. Tom Daschle withdrew after admitting he had not paid all his taxes, including on a car and driver, since leaving Congress as a Democratic leader. On the same day, budget watchdog nominee Nancy Killefer withdrew over tax issues.
Kansas Gov. Kathleen Sebelius is being floated as a nominee for the Health and Human Services job, but no selection timeline has emerged.
It took Obama almost a month to replace Richardson with GOP Sen. Judd Gregg.
