On Tuesday, the Florida High School Athletics Association released tentative reclassified districts for girls volleyball, boys and girls basketball, and boys and girls soccer for the 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 seasons.
Notable changes across the three sports include Plant, Wharton, Brandon, Bloomingdale and Wharton moving from Class 5A to 6A; Sickles moving from 6A to 5A, and Middleton moving to Class 3A, where it will join new schools George Steinbrenner and Strawberry Crest.
Schools have until Feb. 20 to appeal. Schools can petition to be placed in higher or lower classes or appeal to move into another district within the same class.
According to FHSAA spokesperson Cristina Alvarez, schools were moved to accommodate increases/decreases in recent student population reports and for balancing purposes.
