TAMPA - Five Guys Famous Burgers and Fries, a restaurant chain that's expanding in the Bay area, has set its sights on South Tampa.
Robert Dorfman, the Hillsborough County Five Guys franchisee, has signed a lease to put a new restaurant inside Sunshine Plaza, 4304 S. Dale Mabry Hwy., now occupied by Sunshine Thrift store.
A real estate Web site also indicates a Verizon store is coming to Sunshine Plaza.
Dorfman chose the location partly to serve customers from MacDill Air Force Base, some of whom have been driving to Five Guys' Kennedy Boulevard store, Dorfman said.
Dorfman doesn't yet have a firm timetable for opening, because he's waiting on the strip mall's redevelopment, he said.
He and his business partners recently opened a restaurant at the Skypoint condominium tower in downtown Tampa, their seventh Five Guys location in Hillsborough County.
