CORAL GABLES - Miami will take charter buses to football games at Central Florida and South Florida this fall instead of flying as part of cost-cutting efforts at the university.
The decision by Hurricanes coach Randy Shannon will save the school $140,000, athletic director Kirby Hocutt said Tuesday.
Miami's athletic department is installing a 44-point plan to trim spending in this "critical time," Hocutt said. Shannon approached him last week with the idea of eliminating two of the charter flights, a somewhat uncommon occurrence for big-time football programs.
Miami is also cutting the cost of some season ticket packages for next season.
