TAMPA - Police are pursuing leads to find a red sport-utility vehicle involved in a crash Sunday that killed a homeless woman.
Melissa Sjostrom, 33, died of her injuries at Tampa General Hospital after the crash about 8:27 p.m. Sunday, Tampa police said today.Sjostrom was walking east across South Hyde Park Avenue at West Azeele Street when she was hit by the vehicle, which was heading southbound on Hyde Park Avenue, police said.
The driver continued without stopping, police said.
Police ask anyone with information about the crash to call (813) 231-6130.Barbara Killeen of Amazing Love Ministries, which feeds the homeless at Hyde Park United Methodist Church, said Sjostrom often camped in the area. She walked with a limp, Killeen said.
"It's very sad," Killeen said. "She was very well-liked and very friendly."
