TAMPA - Starbucks now offers sandwiches and platters for folks who want lunch with their latte, including turkey and tarragon chicken sandwiches and fruit trays.
Like most of the upscale coffee house's other offerings, the food isn't for the financially faint of heart, but the offerings are healthy, Starbucks officials say.
The lunches offer the convenience of snagging a quick bite and coffee with one stop.
Calorie counts are listed on the labels along with grams of fat, sodium content, protein and fiber.
A sampling of some of the lunches today found that for $5.65 the rather compact turkey sandwich and slice of Swiss cheese with lettuce on wheat bread, was, well a turkey sandwich.
The tarragon chicken sandwich was a bit more moist and tasty, with dried cranberries and celery. The extra taste costs a bit more, coming in at $5.95.
The fruit platter, at $5.25, may offer the better deal. It contained half of an apple, a dozen or more green and red grapes, a quarter-inch thick slice of cheddar cheese, three dice-size cubes of Asiago and a wee wedge of brie. A single package of crackers completed the combo.
Starbucks says the new offerings are in response to a consumer survey that said customers on the go wanted healthier options for lunch, including sandwiches and salads, parfaits and snack plates.
