TAMPA - A woman sought in a case of cosmetic enhancements to the buttocks gone wrong surrendered today on an arrest warrant, officials said.
Sharhonda Lindsay, 32, of Thonotosassa, is charged with two felony counts practicing medicine without a license. She turned herself in at Orient Road Jail this morning. She was being held on $5,000 bail and has been released on bond, jail records show.
According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, two women suffered internal injuries after Lindsay injected their buttocks with a silicone substance called hydrogel and a saline solution for "cosmetic enhancements."
Sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter could not describe the extent of their injuries because of federal health-privacy laws but said the women were treated at Town & Country Hospital.
Lindsay is an acquaintance of both women, Carter said. One of the women invited Lindsay to her home on Jan. 29 and paid $500 for 40 injections to increase her backside; the other woman paid $250 for 20 injections that day, Carter said.
After the injections, both women experienced pain and discomfort, Carter said.
Carter did not know how Lindsay obtained the products for the injections. "My understanding is you can order it off the Internet," she said.
The sheriff's office has not received other complaints about Lindsay, but there is the potential that other victims have not come forward, Carter said.
