A Bartow man accused of breaking into a convenience store early Wednesday morning and taking more than $3,000 in cigarettes is connected to at least four other similar robberies that occurred in Hillsborough County since June, according to criminal arrest affidavits.
Christopher Lowell Wilson, 36, of 1125 Gause Ave., Bartow, was arrested at 3:20 a.m. Wednesday. Deputies say Wilson caused $1,200 in damage when he pried open the door to a Murphy gas station store in Wimauma. Wilson took $3,220 worth of cigarettes and left the store in a leased 2008 Pontiac, affidavits state.
He was stopped by detectives, who had Wilson under surveillance. After his arrest, detectives linked Wilson to burglaries in Lithia, Riverview and New Tampa, the affidavits state.
In each case, Walgreens drugstores were targeted. During a Nov. 11 burglary, $4,187 worth of cigarettes and digital cameras were taken, detectives say.
Wilson was charged with several counts of burglary of an unoccupied structure, possession of burglary tools, grand theft and criminal mischief. He was being held Wednesday night without bail at Orient Road Jail.
