Pinellas Woman Discovers Mercury In Garage, Calls Officials

A woman cleaning her garage found some of her recently deceased husband's laboratory materials and called to find out if they were dangerous, a Seminole Fire Rescue spokeswoman said.
Seminole Fire Rescue came today to the home in Bay Pines Estates, near the Bay Pines VA Medical Center. There was no immediate threat, as everything was sealed, and investigators didn't need to wear hazardous materials suits, according to the spokeswoman.
Seminole Fire Rescue said it is believed that mercury was in one of the four containers investigators found.
Investigators told the homeowner that she would have to call a private company to have the materials removed.
