LARGO - A Tampa woman who was supposed to be taking care of a woman with severe autism is accused of dragging her across the ground instead.

Theresa G. Singleton, 53, was arrested Wednesday on one count of abusing a disabled or elderly person. Bail was set at $10,000, and jail records show she was released on bond.

Singleton, while working for Assure Solutions, was supposed to be taking care of the woman from Jan. 30 to Feb. 2 while the woman's full-time caregiver was out, Singleton's arrest affidavit says.

When the full-time caregiver returned to the client's home at the Champions Point apartment complex on Feb. 2, the caregiver noticed the client's shorts were soaked in blood, the affidavit says.

She had severe abrasions on her left and right buttocks, her right hip, and on the middle of her back – injuries consistent with having been dragged on the ground, the affidavit says. The woman was transported to Largo Medical Center for treatment.

Singleton denied the allegation of assault, claiming the woman had been scooting – or propelling herself – on the ground on her buttocks, the affidavit says.
