Brad Paisley leads all finalists for the Academy of Country Music Awards with six nominations, but the biggest surprise might be former Trick Pony singer Heidi Newfield's five nods.
Paisley was nominated Wednesday for entertainer of the year and male vocalist. He's also a finalist for record, song and video of the year for "Waitin' on a Woman," and for vocal event of the year for "Start a Band" with Keith Urban.
Newfield released her solo debut, "What Am I Waiting For," in August. She's nominated in five categories, including song of the year and video of the year for "Johnny & June."
The Academy of Country Music Awards air on CBS from Las Vegas on April 5.
Kenny Chesney, George Strait and Jamey Johnson received four nominations apiece. Carrie Underwood is nominated for entertainer of the year and female vocalist.
Singer 'Very Upset' After Incident
The weekend altercation between Rihanna and Chris Brown left her bloody and bruised, and was so brutal it required a doctor's intervention, according to new details that emerged Tuesday.
"Chris knocked her around," a source told People magazine. Witnesses in the hospital with Rihanna told other online sources the singer "was clearly very upset. ... I could hear her screaming."
Brown, 19, was booked on a felony count of making threats Sunday and could face further charges. He's free on $50,000 bail.
Rihanna, 20, whose full name is Robyn Rihanna Fenty, is cooperating with detectives, according to the Los Angeles Times, which has identified the singer as the victim of the weekend assault.
Smith Named Most Bankable Star
Will Smith was voted the most bankable star in Hollywood in a survey of industry professionals by Forbes.com.
The financial magazine's Web site gives the actor a 10 out of 10 for his bankability in its first "star currency" list.
Following Smith on the list: Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp and Leonardo DiCaprio, who all tied for second with a score of 9.89. Tom Hanks, George Clooney, Denzel Washington, Matt Damon and Jack Nicholson rounded out the top 10.
