PORT RICHEY - The Seventh Annual Presidents Day Invitational will take place Saturday and Sunday at the Spinnations Skating Center, 8345 Congress St.
More than 140 skaters of all ages representing 15 figure skating clubs will be in town with their coaches and family for the two-day event. Doors open at 5:30 a.m. Saturday with events ending at 8 p.m. Sunday, doors open at 6:30 a.m. and events conclude at 6 p.m.
Public admission is $5 a day anytime during the championships with in and out privileges. Food concession will be open serving daily specials.
Some of the fiercest competitors in the United States will be skating in the Junior and Senior World Class singles and pairs divisions, a news release stated. Short programs are scheduled for Saturday with the long programs on Sunday. U.S. World pairs team members Siobhan Boismier of New Port Richey and Eric Hadley of Melbourne as well as Mackenzie Wriedt and Alex Poland of Sarasota are expected to skate.
Local competitors also are putting the finishing touches on their routines for the competition. Florida Skating Academy's national and regional champions Nicole Ogloza, Kaitlyn Shaw, Caroline Bell, Dennis and JoAn Turner, Jan LeGassick, Sonja Miller and Erica Sheley are scheduled to compete . Adult and youth division events will skate both Saturday and Sunday. Several Spinnations class skater newcomers also will try their hand at competition on Sunday.
