WESLEY CHAPEL - Wal-Mart will ask Pasco County officials this morning for preliminary approval for a new store off State Road 54 at the northern end of Wiregrass Ranch.
The county's Development Review Committee, led by County Administrator John Gallagher, will consider the Arkansas-based retailer's plans for a 217,500-square-foot store, one of four Wal-Mart has spent years developing in Pasco.
If approved, the store will go up south of the junction of S.R. 54 and Pointe Pleasant Boulevard. Plans for the store call for building an access road that eventually will become the northern end of Porter Boulevard, which will link S.R. 54 to Mansfield Boulevard in Meadow Pointe across the Porter family's Wiregrass Ranch.
This afternoon's request for development approval includes several revisions to the original plan for the store and an associated out-parcel on its 36-acre site. Those changes include dropping an in-store liquor store and a tire-and-lube shop planned for an out-parcel.
DRC members will consider Wal-Mart's request when they meet at 1:30 p.m. today at the historical Pasco County courthouse in Dade City.
