A motorcyclist was killed early this morning in Manatee County after he was rear-ended by a car and thrown from his bike.
Michael B. Boyd, 47, of 9775 State Road 64, Ona, was taken by ambulance to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, where he was pronounced dead 1 1/2 hours after the midnight wreck on State Road 64 just west of Dam Road, according to Florida Highway Patrol troopers. He was wearing a helmet.
Boyd was riding his 2007 Honda east on State Road 64 and was struck from behind by a 2004 Nissan driven by Mark Thomas Gregory, 21, 6831 Dominion Lane, Lakewood Ranch, troopers said.
Gregory and a passenger in the Nissan, identified as Early W. Peters, Jr. 20, Bradenton, were not injured, troopers said. No charges were immediately filed.
The collision totaled the motorcycle, causing an estimated $10,000 damage. About $15,000 damage was done to the Nissan, troopers said.
