A 46-year-old Port Richey man was arrested this morning and charged with leaving the scene of an accident that killed a man and injured a woman on U.S. 19 last night in Port Richey, according to jail records.
Michael Richard Long of 9238 Binnacle Dr. was arrested in connection with the fatality, according to the Port Richey Police Department.
Last night, a man and a woman – whose identities are not being released pending notification of family – were trying to cross the road at 10:07 p.m. when they were struck by a car, said Port Richey Police Chief David Brown.
The man appeared to be in his early to mid 20s, said Brown. The woman, he said, appears to be in her mid-30s.
She was taken to Bayfront Medical, where she is in critical condition, said Brown.
Long was charged with one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving death and one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.
He is being held at the county detention center in Land O' Lakes on $15,000 bond.
