Published: February 14, 2009

Donte Maurice Bingham started his day driving a stolen car with a suspended license, burglarized three houses in Gibsonton and ended with a police chase lasting roughly 13 miles, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Bingham, 22, of Tampa, was held without bail at the Orient Road Jail today. He was held on several charges including felony aggravated fleeing and eluding, felony burglary, felony grand theft and felony grand-theft auto, records show.

Here's what happened, according to arrest affidavits:

Bingham took a 1997 four-door Ford Taurus from the 2300 block of Hull Court about 5 a.m. Thursday. He and unidentified co-defendants then broke into three Gibsonton houses by kicking down the front doors, causing at least $1,000 in damage to each house.

The men swiped items, including electronics, worth a total of about $10,400 from the houses and were leaving a house on Southwind Lake Drive when a deputy pulled behind the Taurus in the driveway.

Bingham put the car in reverse, struck the deputy's patrol car and ran a stop sign, striking another vehicle in the neighborhood, before deputies caught up with him and the others at 2401 E. 19th Ave.
