An 11-year-old girl who told Haines City police she had been abducted later admitted to making the story up, police said.
Officers were called to the area of the Southern Dunes Resort after the girl was reported abducted Friday. She was soon found at a nearby strip mall, and gave police details of an abduction, police said.
After police found several inconsistencies in the girl's story, she was questioned again today. She admitted she had simply walked away from where she had been staying and got lost.
The child is on vacation with her family from Scotland. She said she invented the story because she was scared.
Haines City police asked that anyone with additional information to call Detective Sgt. Ron Brown at 863-421-3737, Ext. 235. Or you can anonymously call the HCPD TIPS line at 863-419-3257.
