TAMPA - Friday night's victory wasn't the prettiest of the season for Berkeley Prep, but it was the Bucs' most important to date.

Christian Reintgen scored a team-high 14 points and Austin Suarez added 12 to lead Berkeley Prep to a 56-46 victory against Lennard in a Class 3A-District 11 semifinal, a win that secures a berth in the state playoffs for the Bucs.

The Bucs will meet Tampa Catholic, an 80-57 winner against St. Pete Catholic in the other semifinal, in tonight's district championship at Berkeley Prep.

Berkeley Prep struggled to find any rhythm in the early going and managed just a 23-22 lead at halftime, but the Bucs opened the second half on an 11-0 run and never looked back.

Lennard's Antonio Rodriguez scored a game-high 15 points, while teammate Evan Locke added 13 in a losing effort.

In the other semifinal, Tampa Catholic blew the game open with a 29-point outburst in the fourth quarter.

Ian Ham led the Crusaders with 20 points, D.J. Williams had 19, and Austin Aikens and David Gonzalez chipped in 12 and 10, respectively. Julian Dudley led St. Pete Catholic with 20 points.

The win is the Cobras' seventh in a row. They play tonight for the district title against a 25-0 Springstead team that beat Sunlake 61-33 in the other semifinal.

SPRING HILL - Indian Rocks Christian held host Bishop McLaughlin to two points in the first half en route to a 36-18 victory in the Class 2A-District 9 boys basketball semifinals.

In the other semifinal, top-seeded Tampa Prep rolled past Calvary Christian 73-41.

The Hurricanes missed 16 of their first 17 shots as the Golden Eagles held a 14-2 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Golden Eagles' duo of point guard Buddy Kaufman (12 assists) and shooting guard Isaac McMillen (14 points) took control of the game.

"Nothing on offense was working for either team," Kaufman said. "Isaac and I have been teammates since our pre-K days, so we anticipate where each other is on the court."

Cambridge, Seffner Chr. Win

Cambridge sprung a 44-40 upset against Bayshore Christian, and Seffner Christian routed Tampa Baptist 57-31 at The Corral at USF, and will meet tonight for the Class 1A-District 10 championship.

"You have to understand the journey we've been on," Cambridge coach Scott Thompson said. "They beat us the first seven times we played." Including once by 55 points the first year Cambridge played basketball.

Mike Seward led Cambridge with 19 points and had two key 3's late in the game.

Fred Lewis led Bayshore with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

In the second game, Seffner Christian had few problems with Tampa Baptist. Despite the Crusaders' convincing victory, Coach Roger Duncan wasn't completely satisfied.

"I wasn't very impressed with our offense or defense," Duncan said. "I think we could've been sharper with both, but I'm glad we won."

Canterbury To Face Citrus Park

CLEARWATER - Top-seeded Canterbury (12-9) rolled into Class 1A-District 11 final at Lakeside Christian with a 41-28 win against fourth-seeded Carrollwood Day (10-12).

The Crusaders led all the way, but had to fight off two runs by the scrappy Patriots. Leading 20-9 at the half, Canterbury saw Carrollwood cut the lead to 20-14. The Patriots again edged closer at 31-26, but could not overcome turnovers.

Bryce Wilson led the Crusaders with 15 points. Desean Thomas had nine. Jordan Levine paced Carrollwood Day with nine points and Max Djubegovic had seven.

"We are a very young team. Many of our players have never been in a playoff before. Even though we had beaten these guys twice, we knew it would be a dogfight in the district," said Canterbury coach Josh Tebbe.

Second-seeded Citrus Park Christian (13-12) used the 3-point weapon to reach tonight's final. The Eagles made it past Academy of the Lakes (8-13) 51-49 in Friday's first game. CPC hit five from long range, with Jerry Oliver getting three of them. Brandon Hagarty led all scorers with 17 points. For the Wildcats, Matt Grossenbach had 14 points and Troy Pumphrey added 13.

The Eagles led 26-19 at the half and survived a wild fourth quarter in which each team scored 20.
