The headline jumped out at us: "Tompkins Executed For Teen's Murder." It seems that Florida got around to doing its job of executing a brutal killer. The only problem is that this killer sat in a cell for 25 years, after killing a 15-year-old girl who would have been 40 this year.
Can someone please tell me why it took this state 25 years to do a nine-minute job? Oh, I am sure there are people who will attempt to express how important it is to have the lawyers seek appeals for their client. Well, if they could not do their job at trial, or prove within a year that the jury was wrong, then they should hang it up!
But then we have a state of government that allows one stay after another. It seems that it's easier to hand the problem off to yet another head of government than to just do your job.
Justice delayed is justice denied.
