TAMPA - Mounted Tampa officers trying to clear Seventh Avenue in Ybor City after Saturday's Illuminated Knight Parade were confronted by a man who slapped a police horse then challenged them to a fight, according to a criminal arrest affidavit.
Dejun Valdez Simmons, 21, was arrested and charged with striking a police horse, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest without violence.
Simmons yelled at and threatened police as mounted officers cleared the street about 3 a.m. Saturday, the arrest report states. Simmons slapped a police horse named Red as officers approached him, the affidavit states.
Simmons yelled more threats as he was being arrested and challenged nearby officers to fight him, police say.
Simmons was being held Sunday night on $1,250 bail at Orient Road Jail.
