TAMPA - Firefighters responding to a call of two buildings ablaze on North Dixon Avenue Monday night had to regroup when a power line fell over a truck and on the front yard of a home, authorities say.
Tampa Fire Rescue crews had to approach the burning structures at 8414 N. Dixon Ave. from another direction because of the live power line, authorities say. The heat from the fire was so intense that it threatened a home next door, but crews got the flames under control in about 20 minutes.
The fire destroyed a single-story house and a smaller, detached home in the backyard, Tampa Fire rescue officials say. No one was home when the fire started, but the American Red Cross is helping the three adults and one child who live there with temporary shelter.
No one was injured during the incident, which was first reported at 9:20 p.m. TECO crews secured the downed power line.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but does not appear to be suspicious, authorities say.
