A Chevrolet Tahoe stolen in Dade County was spotted near Ruskin this morning hauling a trailer and two personal watercraft that was reported stolen from St. Pete Beach, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
The unidentified driver of the sport utility vehicle ran into the woods near Sun City Center Boulevard after troopers tried to pull him over, highway patrol spokesman Sgt. Steve Gaskins said in a written statement.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office and the highway patrol searched for the driver about 10:30 a.m. but could not find him. The man may have made his way back to Interstate 75 where "he was most likely picked up by an accomplice or unassuming good Samaritan," Gaskins said.
The man is described as white, between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall. He was wearing blue jeans and a gray hooded sweatshirt that covered his face. Troopers tried to pull the SUV over because it had illegal window tint, Gaskins said.
The Chevrolet Tahoe was reported stolen from Doral on July 22. The trailer and two Sea Doo watercraft were stolen from St. Pete Beach this morning. The Tahoe has been recovered and returned to its owner, Gaskins said. The owner of the trailer and watercraft went to Ruskin to pick up his property.
