The owners of a Land O' Lakes kennel damaged in a fire last week have established an account for donations to help them rebuild, bank officials said.
Regions Bank is accepting donations for Paw Prince Pet Resort and Spa, which caught fire Feb. 11, officials said. Donations can be made at any branch by mentioning the full name of the kennel.
The fire caused about $30,000 in damage to the business at 10125 Land O' Lakes Blvd., according to Pasco County Fire Rescue.
A power surge apparently caused a nearby transformer to blow, sparking the fire, kennel owner Marc Zuccola said.
Initial reports said 17 dogs were rescued from the fire. Kennel employees now say one of the boarded dogs suffered burns but was treated by an emergency veterinarian; other dogs were treated for minor burns and smoke issues.
Zuccola and his wife, Kim, have insurance on the contents of their business but not the building because they rent the property. Their landlord had no insurance on the building, so they can't fix the roof or make other structural repairs, Kim Zuccola said.
About five dogs whose owners had made reservations previously for boarding are staying at the kennel today.
"Our front building was not affected, so we're doing what we can," Kim Zuccola said.
