People are now allowed back in their homes in the area near a brush fire in Polk County this morning.

A brush fire that threatened a mobile home in Polk County has been contained.

The blaze covered 5 to 7 acres near Combee and Mine & Mill roads in the Crystal Lake area. About 274 homes and 30 businesses were told to evacuate today, but residents were allowed back home at about 2 p.m.

Polk County Fire Rescue fought the fire with the Division of Forestry, the Bartow Fire Department and Polk County deputies.

No one was injured, and no homes or businesses were damaged.

The fire was in an area surrounded by industrial warehouses, an elementary school, mobile homes and duplexes; winds of 10 to 15 mph impeded crews initially.

Crews remain on scene and are monitoring the weather.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
