SPRING HILL - The driver who struck a school bus Tuesday morning didn't have a driver's license, but he did possess an outstanding arrest warrant.
The crash happened around 8 a.m. when a school bus headed east on Philatelic Drive was struck by a Dodge pickup, which scraped down the entire left side of the bus, a report shows.
A deputy first spoke with Johanna Irizarry, who claimed she was driving the pickup. Her explanation of the collision was hazy, though, and at odds with the accounts from the bus driver and his passengers, according to a report.
Irizarry eventually admitted that her husband, Jesus Irizarry, was behind the wheel, but he had left the accident scene before authorities arrived. Deputies circled the neighborhood for a half hour looking for their suspect before Jesus Irizarry, 30, walked up to a deputy and surrendered.
Jesus Irizarry was given criminal citations for careless driving, driving without a license and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage. His wife was cited for not providing insurance and allowing an unauthorized person to drive her vehicle.
