NEW PORT RICHEY - Two River Ridge High weightlifters have some nice souvenirs after medaling in the Florida High School Athletic Association Girls State Weightlifting Championships on Saturday at River Ridge.
Royal Knights junior Natalie Marenghi was fourth in the 110-pound class in her third trip to state, and senior Brianna Hooker was fifth in the 119-pound class in her fourth and final trip.

Marenghi, who had a 145-pound bench press and a 115-pound clean-and-jerk lift, overcame a left arm injury.

"I can't feel from the elbow down. ... It has been going on for two months," she said. "This was the best bench I have ever had."

River Ridge finished 17th overall with five team points. Port Orange Spruce Creek won its sixth title with 30 points.

Hooker, who moved up a weight class from 110 pounds, had a 155-pound bench press and a 140-pound clean-and-jerk. Last season she was third at state in the 110-pound class.

"I had fun," she said. "I just wanted to come here and have fun and come train with the girls. I made it every year. It's so nerve-wracking."

River Ridge sophomore Megan Shoun was eighth in the 199-pound class with a 155-pound clean-and-jerk and a 160-pound bench. It was her second trip to state.

"It was definitely a relief to get it over with," Shoun said.

Also for River Ridge, Amanda Becker was 15th with a 180 bench and a 125 clean-and-jerk; Heather Muller (169-pound class) was 13th with a 275 total; Jessica Diaz (101) was tied for eighth with 220 pounds; and Danielle DiMarti (119) was 19th with 235 pounds.

Ridgewood's Elizabeth Clum was 10th with a 285 total in the 169-pound class, and teammate Lauren Heymann (139) was 10th with 285 pounds;

Gulf's Jordyn Roberts (154) was ninth with a 300-pound total, and teammate Ashley Mizrahi (119) was eighth with 270 pounds.

Zephyrhills' Katherine Patton (183) was 16th with a 265-pound total.

Hudson's Tianna Perry (129) was 20th with 245 pounds, and teammate Kalah St. Pierre (110) was ninth with 245 pounds.
