TAMPA - Even with a stumbling economy, nearly a half-million people found the cash to attend this year's Florida State Fair, which ended its 12-day run Monday.
This year's attendance of 466,733 ranks ninth in recent history of the 105-year-old event.
Though the attendance ranks in the top 10, the economy did impact the number of people going to the fair. This year's attendance was a drop of 5 percent from 2008.
Attendance was also about 2.7 percent below the historical average, organizers said.
Monday's closing day, which was also the Presidents Day holiday, drew 43,061 people, the second largest crowd to attend the fair's last day.
Organizers said Valentine's Day, which fell on a Saturday, had the year's highest attendance, with more than 63,000 people going through the gates.
The fair opened Feb. 5.
