TAMPA - A man wanted in connection with a Jan. 5 attempted robbery at American Momentum Bank was arrested Thursday night by Hillsborough County sheriff's detectives.
Michael Purnell Weston, 44, was charged with armed burglary, attempted armed robbery, armed kidnapping and armed carjacking.
DNA evidence on a black mask left inside the bank at 15150 N. Florida Ave. linked Weston to the crime, detectives say.
Weston broke a window and hid inside the bank waited for the first employee to arrive at 8 a.m., detectives say. Weston ordered the employee at gunpoint to open the vault but she could not, the sheriff's office said.
Weston then demanded the woman's keys and left the bank in her vehicle. He abandoned the vehicle a short distance away, detectives say.
Weston was being booked Thursday night at Orient Road Jail.
