Hillsborough County displays its new district layout when the high school football season kicks off Sept. 4.
Some old rivalries remain intact, while new ones will certainly form with the new districts. In arguably the county's toughest district, the defending state champion Plant Panthers open the season against Tampa Bay Tech.
In addition to district opponents that include playoff teams Alonso and Gaither, Plant keeps former rivalries on its schedule. The Panthers travel to Hillsborough on Sept. 11, Armwood on Oct. 2 and Chamberlain on Nov. 6.
The two newest schools, Steinbrenner and Strawberry Crest, open the season against each other. With no seniors, both schools will mix in a junior varsity schedule.
