TAMPA - Police today arrested one of two men suspected of committing at least five burglaries in downtown Tampa and Channelside earlier this month.
Kevin Shaw, 23, was charged with 15 counts of burglary, 12 counts of grand theft, 12 counts of dealing in stolen property, two counts of felony criminal mischief, and probation violations.
He was being booked into the Orient Road Jail.
About 8:15 a.m., two undercover officers saw a man that matched the description of one of the suspects with a bandaged right hand walking along the buildings at Channelside and East Meridian. The suspect ran from the officers, who chased him. When he struggled, police used a Taser to subdue him.
Police said Shaw was carrying a backpack they say contained evidence from a previous burglary. He also was wearing a black stocking cap similar to that captured on video.
Police say Shaw confessed to eight burglaries and showed detectives which buildings he had burglarized.
Police say Shaw stole cash from two businesses inside 119 N. 11th Street. A second man took five laptops from offices at 601 N. Ashley Drive on Feb. 12. Police described the second man as a thin, light-complexioned black or Hispanic male, 6-feet to 6-feet, 2-inches, with a goatee.
