Pinellas County sheriff's detectives are investigating a fire that was intentionally set and destroyed a 12-unit apartment building in Feather Sound early this morning.
No one was injured in the fire at the Bay Meadows Apartments, 13795 Feather Sound Circle E, the Pinellas County Sheriff's Office said.
The fire happened at about 2:30 a.m. and destroyed building No. 5. Eleven of the building's 12 units were occupied, the sheriff's office said. One resident unsuccessfully tried to put out the fire with an extinguisher before firefighters arrived.
Arson investigators from the sheriff's office determined the fire was intentionally set outside the building.
The Salvation Army is at the scene providing help to the residents, the sheriff's office said.
The sheriff's office is asking that anyone with information about the fire contact Det. Chris Gilmore at (727) 582-6200 or call Crime Stoppers at (800) 873-TIPS to remain anonymous.
