ST. PETERSBURG - Authorities say a distraught St. Petersburg man threw a grenade at two officers in hopes of being shot by police.
St. Petersburg Police say the explosives had been removed from the grenade 58-year-old Joseph John Hyde hurled their way Friday night. Officers say he later told them he wanted to scare them into shooting him.
Hyde is charged with resisting arrest, two counts of felony aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer and misdemeanor charges of resisting arrest without violence and disorderly intoxication.
He was being held in lieu of bail.
