Law enforcement agencies suspended today the liquor license of a Bradenton bar where two slayings, 29 assaults and 25 drug complaints have occurred over the past 3 1/2 years.
Club RJ's, 720 Ninth Ave. W., is a business that had a "constant need for extra police presence," Bradenton Deputy Police Chief William Tokajer said in a written statement. "There is not a week that goes by that the police department does not have to respond to Club RJ's."
Tokajer said police spent about 500 man-hours answering emergency calls at the club over a six-month period. Cost to taxpayers was $24,000.
Club RJ's management, employees and patrons have been allowing drug sales at the business, Tokajer said. The bar is within 1,000 feet of several churches and day care centers.
The bar's liquor license was suspended today by Bradenton police and the state's Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco.
