A 46-year-old St. Petersburg woman is in critical condition in the burn unit of Tampa General Hospital with burns covering 30 percent of her body.

Paramedics were called to a house just before 7 p.m. Saturday with a report of a woman on fire.
Rescue crews found the woman on the floor in front of a burning fireplace at 4350 19th St. N., in St. Petersburg.

The woman's mother, Betty Ramey, 70, said she found her daughter on the floor on fire and put it out with her house coat, St. Petersburg Fire Rescue said. She applied two quarts of aloe gel to her daughter before paramedics arrived.

Investigators do not know how the woman was burned but said it appeared accidental.

The woman had second- and third-degree burns on her head, face, neck and legs that covered about 30 percent of her body, investigators said.

She was flown to Tampa General Hospital in critical condition.

The St. Petersburg Police Department and city fire officials are investigating.
