TAMPA - A fire early this morning injured two people and destroyed a house just east of Wimauma in a rural area of Hillsborough County.
Firefighters arrived at the burning structure at 8211 State Road 674 off a dirt road wedged between a goat farm and an orange grove and found it nearly burned to the ground, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue said.
A man and woman had escaped the fire but were seriously injured, the fire department said. They were flown to Tampa General Hospital.
Remnants of caution tape lay draped on the front entrance to the road late this morning. A sheriff's deputy, who had been guarding the entrance left just before noon.
Investigators are searching for the cause of the fire. Firefighters did not know whether the house had smoke alarms.
