"In Israeli folk dancing, we always start with the right foot," Ian Arroyo called out over the swirling music to a crowd learning dance steps. Arroyo and other members of the Unit-E Dance Team, a group of Israeli-certified dance instructors from the Kol Simcha Congregation in Gainesville, led by example, teaching the traditional dance steps during the third annual Benefit to Support Israel.
Sunday's event, hosted by The Tampa Bay Committee to Bless Israel and held at the India Cultural Center, featured dance lessons, speakers, entertainment and presentations to raise money for social service needs in Israel.
Speakers included David Dolan, a Jerusalem-based author and journalist; Eeki Elner, Founder of the Israeli Leadership Institute in Sderot; U.S. Rep. Gus Bilirakis; Dr. Norman Gross, president of Promoting Responsibility in Middle East Reporting; and Sarah Abarbanel, Holocaust survivor.
