TAMPA - Bishop McLaughlin doesn't get many chances to play bigger, more established programs – in any sport. The small, private Catholic high school near the Pasco-Hernando county line is still in growing mode when it comes to athletics.
But the baseball team took a huge step forward Tuesday when the Class 2A Hurricanes earned a 7-6 victory against Class 3A Tampa Catholic.
"This is a big win for our program," said Bishop, McLaughlin coach Nick Rodriguez.
Senior Brian Holland threw an 110-pitch complete game and got some defensive help in the last inning to earn his second win of the season. Tampa Catholic (0-2) had runners on first and second with one out in the bottom of the seventh but Bishop McLaughlin (2-1) turned a double play to end the game.
