NEW PORT RICHEY - Jim Michaels, principal at River Ridge High, is expected to become the new principal at Mitchell High School.
Superintendent Heather Fiorentino said Tuesday she plans to recommend the Pasco County School Board approve the transfer at the board's March 3 meeting. Michaels would assume his new duties March 23.
Michaels would replace Mitchell Principal Ric Mellin, who is transferring to become principal at Land O' Lakes High. Mellin's transfer, already approved by the school board, also is to take place March 23.
Michaels has been principal at River Ridge High since 2004.
He began his career in Pasco County in 1984 as a teacher at Hudson High. In 1991, he transferred to River Ridge Middle/High as a physical education teacher and athletic director.
River Ridge Middle and River Ridge High operated as one school at that time.
In 1996, Michaels was promoted to assistant principal at River Ridge.
He also served as an assistant principal at Mitchell High and principal at Schwettman Education Center before becoming principal at River Ridge High.
