TAMPA - A bicyclist collided with a school bus about 3 p.m. today as it was turning into Gaither High School, school officials said.
The 49-year-old man was transported to St. Joseph's Hospital. His injuries were not life-threatening, Hillsborough County sheriff's spokeswoman Debbie Carter said.
The bus, which was not carrying students, was trying to make a tight turn and slowed down significantly, Carter said. The bicyclist struck the side of the bus.
The man's name was not released by authorities, but he is not affiliated with the school, school district spokesman Linda Cobbe said.
Cobbe said the bus was turning left onto Mapledale Drive from North Dale Mabry Highway.
The driver, Michael Henry, is undergoing a routine urinalysis, she said. He has been employed with the school district since December 2007.
