Boston College Stops Florida St.

BOSTON - Tyrese Rice hit a key 3-pointer with 20.5 seconds to play and Joe Trapani scored 19 points to lead Boston College to a 72-67 upset of No. 23 Florida State on Tuesday night.

It was the third win for the Eagles (20-9, 8-6 Atlantic Coast Conference) this season against one of the conference's top teams. They handed then-No. 1 North Carolina its first loss on Jan. 4 in Chapel Hill and beat No. 7 Duke at home nine days ago.

Rice, who finished with just 11 points, was scoreless in the first half, but he hit his 3 as the Eagles were clinging to a one-point lead. Rakim Sanders added 16 points and nine rebounds for Boston College.

Toney Douglas led the Seminoles (21-7, 8-5) with 19 points, but committed six of their 18 turnovers. Soloman Alabi had 16 points and seven rebounds.

Providence Stuns Top-Ranked Pitt

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Weyinmi Efejuku scored 16 and Providence upset No. 1 Pittsburgh 81-73 on Tuesday night for its first win against a top-ranked team in 33 years.

Sharaud Curry added 15 points for the Friars (17-11, 9-7 Big East), who picked up a big victory for their NCAA Tournament hopes.

DeJuan Blair fouled out on a moving pick with 46 seconds left as Pittsburgh (25-3, 12-3) tried to rally.

Blair, the reigning Big East player of the week, averaged 21 points and 20.5 rebounds in wins against No. 1 Connecticut and DePaul that elevated the Panthers to the top spot on Monday. But he picked up two quick fouls - his third and fourth - midway through the second half.

Virginia Women Topple No. 11 FSU

TALLAHASSEE - Lyndra Littles scored 17 of her 24 points in the second half and No. 22 Virginia rallied to upset No. 11 Florida State 68-63.

Littles scored six points over the final 2:19 as the Cavaliers (22-7, 8-5) knocked the Seminoles (23-6, 11-2) out of sole possession of first place in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

STORRS, Conn. - Tina Charles scored 19 points and had 10 rebounds to lead top-ranked Connecticut (28-0, 14-0) past Villanova (17-11, 9-5).

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - Shavonte Zellous scored 25 points, overcoming first-half foul trouble, to help No. 15 Pittsburgh (21-5, 11-3 Big East) beat West Virginia (15-12, 3-10).

COLUMBIA, Mo. - Brittainey Raven scored a career-high 31 points and 16th-ranked Texas (20-7, 8-5 Big 12) overcame an early 10-point deficit to beat Missouri (12-14, 3-10).

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - Lindsay Schrader had 23 points and eight rebounds and No. 23 Notre Dame (19-7, 8-6 Big East) overcame blowing a 17-point lead in the first half to beat Syracuse (15-12, 4-10).
