The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has released a description of a suspect involved in a deadly beating in Tampa last week.
Deputies found Lewis Clayton, 38, beaten at the Avalon Village apartments, 14514 Hensel Lane, about 11:30 p.m., sheriff's office spokesman J.D. Callaway said.
The suspect is a black man between the ages of 25 and 30, deputies said today. He is between 5 feet 5 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a thin to medium build. He has short hair [with a low fade] and two gold front top teeth.
There were seven to eight other suspects, ranging in age from their 20s to their 40s.
A suspect vehicle is a late-1980s to early 1990s Jeep Cherokee. It is white, silver or light gray.
Deputies say Clayton and another man had argued outside the complex. Deputies aren't sure what the fight was about, sheriff's spokesman J.D. Callaway said last week.
About 45 minutes to an hour later, a group of up to nine people confronted Clayton outside his apartment, Callaway said. It isn't known whether the initial person Clayton argued with was among those men. A fight began, and the men pummeled Clayton, detectives said.
Clayton was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He had "obvious trauma to the upper body," Callaway said.
An investigation is ongoing.
Anyone with information is asked to call the sheriff's office at (813) 247-8200.
