A 7-year-old girl struck by a car in Dover this morning is expected to recover.
Jamilex Velasquez was chasing after a dog and ran from behind a parked vehicle into the path of a Jeep on Sydney Dover Road near Gwaltney Place shortly after 7:30 a.m., said Vida Morgan with the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office.
The driver of the Jeep, 27-year-old Maricela Rosales, of 4309 Upper Meadow Road, Mulberry, turned the wheel to avoid hitting the girl but could not completely avoid her, Morgan said. The collision sent Velasquez onto the grassy edge of the road, Morgan said.
Velasquez received minor injuries and was airlifted to Tampa General Hospital as a precaution, Morgan said.
Rosales will not be cited for the accident, investigators said.
