Car Towed From Bar

I recently attended a birthday party at the Dogwater Cafe on Hillsborough Avenue. I had been drinking so I left my car there and got a ride home from my boyfriend (not in attendance and sober).

I returned the next day to retrieve my car, but to my surprise it was gone. I had to pay $193 to get it back. The car was towed at 4 a.m. I thought cars could no longer be towed from bars without written consent from the bar manager.

How can it be legal to tow cars from drinking establishments, thus punishing responsible drivers for not drinking and driving? I will never return to said establishment, nor will any of my friends. I just don't know how this is right. If the bartender had even mentioned that it was not acceptable to leave the car, I would have towed it myself for free.

Too Many Homes, Offices

In Wednesday's paper, the water management district demanded a crackdown on water use. For over 25 years we've been telling our local and state officials to limit development. We should demand a crackdown on development. We have had enough. There are homes that will never be lived in and office spaces that will never be used. Enough development!

Thanks, Warrick

This is a very sad day for our community. Warrick Dunn has inspired us, made our community a better place and made us better people for having known him. I speak for many when I say, "Thank you, Warrick, for all you have done." And we wish you all the best as you continue your journey.

No Longer A Bucs Fan
After over 20 years of wearing putrid orange and, more recently, pewter, someone has finally found a way to cure me of my horrible addiction to Buccaneer football. I'd like to thank the new coach, general manage and Glazer family for doing what no other anti-Buccaneer agent, including my family, could do.

I am so disgusted after how the Buccaneer organization treated their veteran players that I no longer feel the need to stand by them during another losing season. To the younger players on the roster, like our local son Geno Hayes, you may want to watch your back. Apparently you have taken a job with an organization that doesn't care if you give them 14 years of your life, not to mention your heart and body. When they are done with you, they are done.

How utterly humiliating it must be to be basically told that no matter how much of a pay cut you are willing to take, your boss, who is younger than you, doesn't want you.

If anyone is interested in any Buccaneer T-shirts, jackets, sweatshirts, footballs, etc, let me know. I am planning on unloading everything, except my Derrick Brooks memorabilia.

It seems I am not completely cured of that addiction.

Bad Decision On Brooks

I cannot express my extreme sadness today. Those guys just tromped on the face of the Bucs. Could they not keep him for one more year and let him retire a Buc? Definitely a first-round hall-of-famer. They are crazy. Best of luck, Raheem; you'll need it.

What a travesty. If the team loses 16 games next year, it will be their just reward. Bad decisions make bad results. Would it not have been classier to offer him an assistant coaching position, or give him the option of retiring? What a mess you have on your hands now. The town is in mourning because you guys are stupid! It could have been handled much differently and you all know it. Nothing you do or say will wipe the shame off your front office. Maybe you should take a page from the Joe Maddon playbook on class acts. Thank goodness we now have something great for which to cheer. Go Rays!

Mail Cutback

Regarding "Saving Snail Mail" (Our Opinion, Feb. 24): Yes, by all means cut back on U.S. Postal Service delivery days. This would mean we actually have a government agency that cuts back. Leadership is studying the times and making adjustments without buying more and taking a handout. It is making decisions based on the cultural and economic changes.

There is a reason we no longer have the Pony Express.

Good Pay And Benefits

I read your front-page article on salaries with great interest. As a child of two federal employees growing up in the Washington, D.C., area during and after World War II, I had discussions with them about jobs and income.

I was told that government jobs, while not paying as much as private industry, had many advantages. The benefits were superior job security; more vacation and sick time, with an option of getting paid for it if not used; early retirement, with pension being paid not based on age as with Social Security, opening up an opportunity to double-dip.

After reading your article I see average income is higher for both county and city employees than the private sector. I wonder if they gave up any of the superior benefits I was told about. If not it appears that would answer why taxes go only one way - up.
