TAMPA - There were plenty of major-league scouts sitting behind home plate with radar guns in hand. They were there to see one person - Mitchell starting pitcher Patrick Schuster.

And he didn't disappoint.

The senior left-hander struck out 13 batters for the second consecutive game as Mitchell remained undefeated with a 7-1 Class 6A-District 7 win against host Gaither on Friday.

"We knew he was going to be the best pitcher we will face all year," said Gaither coach Frank Permuy. "We've seen him the past couple years and he's good ... very good. He has good control and knows how to master the game. He knows how to pitch."

"The first inning out there, I could tell by his demeanor that he meant business," said Mitchell coach Scot Wilcox.
Schuster faced 26 batters, five more than the minimum, allowing three hits, two walks and a hit batter.

By the time Schuster reached the mound, Mitchell (6-0, 2-0 6A-7) had jumped out to a 2-0 lead as Gaither starter Austen Thrailkill experienced control issues - walking three batters and hitting another.

In the second, the Mustangs got a two-run homer by leadoff hitter Kevin Games, who went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and three runs scored.
Gaither (3-1, 1-1) scored its run in the fourth when Mike Danner singled in Drew Doty.
