Bicyclist, 58, Dies In St. Pete After Fall In Front Of Car

ST. PETERSBURG - A 58-year-old bicyclist was killed early New Year's Day when he fell in front of a car on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Street.

Franklin D. Cameron, of 5347 Columbus Way S., St. Petersburg, was exiting a driveway in the 5200 block when he fell in front of a southbound 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo driven by Dontavous H. Thomas, 21, of 2655 58th Ave. S., St. Petersburg police said. Cameron became lodged under the Chevrolet in the wreck, which took place shortly after midnight. He was pronounced dead at 1:35 a.m. at Bayfront Medical Center.

Thomas and his passenger were uninjured.

The accident was "possibly" alcohol-related, police said.
