Regarding the letter on Dec. 29: That was certainly a short season of peace on earth, goodwill to men!

Jeff Allen bemoans taxpayers subsidizing the use of public libraries by the homeless. Perhaps he could tell us how to make these cursed people disappear without "taxpayer" expense. Fencing them in under the bridges, free bus tickets to the city limits, et al. seem to have some necessity for taxpayer expenditure. Besides, liquor and cigarettes are heavily taxed. So maybe these people truly are entitled to library cards.
