A New Year's Day fire that may have been started by fireworks damaged a house, St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue reported.
Firefighters found debris from fireworks outside the house, at 3235 Queen St. N., St. Petersburg. Investigators think smoldering fireworks, perhaps a bottle rocket, set the wood-frame structure on fire.
Fire crews put out the fire within 20 minutes of receiving the call about 9 a.m.
Damage was estimated at $40,000.
"St. Petersburg Fire & Rescue recommends that the best way to enjoy fireworks is to visit public fireworks displays put on by professionals who know how to safely handle fireworks," the department said in a statement.
No injuries were reported.
The American Red Cross was called to assist with the relocation of the home's occupants.
