NEW PORT RICHEY - This Chris Stein might not be as well known as the guitarist of the same name who was a co-founder of the new wave rock band Blondie. But the 20-year-old New Port Richey singer and rising star hopes to change that in the near future.

Stein recently agreed to an exclusive contract with Model Productions, which will send him to Miami in February, said Stein's grandfather, Ed Holder.

Only two such contracts are awarded in Florida each year, Holder said.

The talent scouting and development firm has offices in Miami, Atlanta and New York.

Last week Stein received notice he is being considered for the 2009 series of NBC's "America's Got Talent."

Stein already had won an online singing contest sponsored by "Entertainment Tonight." The Big Shot Live contest earned him a trip to Hollywood, where he sang at a famous night spot.

Stein also recently sang solo in the "Pasco Christmas Memories" show at Richey Suncoast Theatre in downtown New Port Richey.

He has sung a tune for former Gov. Jeb Bush, appeared on the "Daytime" TV show on WFLA, News Channel 8 with Dave Nemeth and Cyndi Edwards, and has shared the stage many times with Stan Prinston and Tommy Russo for performances at the Gulf View Square mall during Seniors Are Something Special Year-round Days.
